Post-LASIK cataract surgery IOL calculation
Wang Vision 3D Cataract and LASIK Center, Nashville, Tennessee
Wang Vision 3D Cataract & LASIK Center is an international referral center, for corneal topography interpretation and for intraocular lens power calculation for cataract surgery, particularly in a post-RK/LASIK/PRK eyes, since in these eyes, the IOL power is much likely to be off, hence, special skills and knowledge are needed to perform the appropriate IOL power calculation. We are actively conducting research projects in these areas and offer a free IOL calculation service for cataract surgeon colleagues from around the U.S. and the world. We have published the following major textbooks, in this field:
- Corneal Topography in the Wavefront Era
- Irregular Astigmatism – Diagnosis & Treatment
- Corneal dystrophy and degeneration – a molecular biological approach
- Keratoconus and keratoectasia – prevention, diagnosis and treatment
- Atlas and Clinical Reference Guide for Corneal Topography
- Laser Vision Correction
And peer-reviewed articles:
- Comparison of intraocular lens power calculation methods after myopic laser refractive surgery without previous refractive surgery data, Journal of Cataract & Refractive Surgery Volume 39, Issue 9 , Pages 1327-1335, September 2013
If you have difficult IOL calculation for cataract surgery for your patients, particularly for post-RK/LASIK/PRK eyes, you are welcomed to contact us at drwang@wangvisioninstitute.com, we will do our best to help you and your patients. Our calculation for you and your patients are free-of-charge, and we do collect these data, for our on-going research effort, to improve the state-of-the-art technology in IOL calculation for post-RK/LASIK/PRK eyes.
The following data is required for the clinical history method:
OD | OS | |
K's Pre-Op | ||
MR Pre-Op | ||
MR Post-Op | ||
K's Post-Op |
Refraction derived Keratometry readings at the spectacle plane, and corneal plane can be calculated using the clinical history method.
Gas perm lenses can be used to determine the corneal curvature. Known contact lens power and base curve, when combined with the over-refraction in the corneal plane, allow calculation of the corneal curvature.
Adjusted Effective Refractive Power (Eff RPadj): Measurement of post-op corneal power using the EyeSys corneal analysis system provides the Eff RPadj in the Holladay diagnostic summary. [Eff RPadj = Eff RP - (0.15 x ΔMR). (Mean SE +0.88+/-)]
Maloney Method: Central corneal power is determined using the Humphrey Atlas topographer, with modification of the formula: CP = (central topographic power) x [376/337.5]) - 4.9.
Orbscan IIz: Two measurements using the Orbscan IIz, 2 mm total mean power calculation and a 4 mm total optical power calculation.
