LASER CATARACT
TN’s first center offering the most advanced laser cataract surgery technology, designed to improve the precision and safety of the procedure.
(Nashville, TN, December 1st, 2011) Traditional cataract surgery is performed with a blade. Dr. Ming Wang of Wang Vision 3D Cataract & LASIK Center of Nashville, TN, announced today that he performed the state’s first laser cataract surgery using a newly FDA-approved LenSx laser system, and the world’s first 3D laser cataract surgeryusing the TrueVision 3D image-guided high-definition microsurgical system.
“We are proud to be the first in the state, as well as the first in the 8 states surrounding Tennessee, to offer ‘LASER CATARACT’. We are also proud to be the first in the world to combine this new technology with the 3D image-guided microsurgical system,” said Dr. Wang, who is a clinical associate professor of ophthalmology for the University of Tennessee. This is the first year that Alcon is rolling out this LenSx laser cataract surgery technology in the U.S., and Wang Vision was selected to be among the first group of leading cataract surgery centers in the country to receive it. Dr. Wang is a Harvard & MIT graduate (MD, magna cum laude), and is one of the few cataract and LASIK surgeons in the world today who holds a doctorate degree in laser physics.
15 years ago, refractive surgery went from blade (RK) to laser (LASIK), which revolutionized the eye surgery industry and enabled millions of people to gain freedom from their dependence on glasses and contact lenses. Today, a similar revolution is taking place, and this time with cataract surgery, which is also moving from blade to laser! Given that 3.2 million cataract surgeries are performed annually in the U.S. (which is 5 times more than LASIK!), LASER CATARACT is expected to have an even greater impact on the quality of life for millions of people.
Unlike traditional BLADE cataract surgery, the new LASER CATARACT system utilizes an advanced, ultra-short-pulsed femtosecond laser, which has a pulse duration of 0.000000000000001 second (that’s 14 zeros!), improving the precision of cataract surgery. Dr. Wang uses the laser to customize the surgery to the exact specifications of each individual patient, and a computerized laser imaging system which guides the laser beam. Real-time, high-resolution images of the eye are projected onto a computer screen, which allows Dr. Wang to perform the surgery and laser astigmatism correction with precision that far surpasses that of a traditional manual blade, and this was also the first surgery in the world to combine 3D and LASER CATARACT technologies!
“LASER CATARACT is without doubt the most significant innovation in cataract surgery in 20 years, and it is the most advanced technology we have today.” Dr. Wang concluded.

Frequently Asked Questions about the new 3D cataract surgery
Wang Vision 3D Cataract and LASIK Center, Nashville, Tennessee
Q: What is 3D cataract surgery?
A: “3D cataract surgery " is short for "3D image-guided premium FOREVER YOUNG cataract surgery using a 3D high-definition, stereoscopic microsurgical system".
Q: How is the 3D cataract surgery different than the traditional cataract surgery?
A: In traditional 2D cataract surgery, the surgeon looks through a surgical microscope with the naked eye. What you see is what you get. There is no image processing or signal enhancement. Therefore, since the eyeball is small, there is limited resolution, precision and accuracy in the surgical procedure.
In contrast, for the new 3D image-guided, premium FOREVER YOUNG cataract surgery, the surgeon wears a pair of 3D glasses and uses a 3D high-definition, stereoscopic microsurgical system to perform the cataract surgery. It provides a more precise and accurate correction of astigmatism, thus enhancing the quality of cataract surgery and visual out come in our patients.
Q: Is Wang Vision the first center in TN to offer this 3D cataract surgery technology? If so, why is WV uniquely involved in introducing this technology?
A: Yes, Dr. Wang is the first in the state to perform 3D cataract surgery.
Dr. Ming Wang, a Harvard & MIT graduate (MD, magna cum laude), is one of the few cataract and LASIK surgeons in the world today who holds a doctorate degree in laser physics. He has always been at the forefront of the development of new breakthrough eye surgery technologies. The new 3D image-guided premium FOREVER YOUNG cataract surgery technology is the latest example of new eye surgeries that Dr. Wang has introduced to TN, and to the world.
Q: I am very interested in the new 3D cataract surgery, but do I have to pay more for the 3D upgrade than I do for regular cataract surgery?
A: Please call Wang Vision 3D Cataract & LASIK Center 615-321-8881 for pricing and scheduling your consultation for 3D cataract surgery!
