"FOREVER YOUNG™ lens surgery" - One of the state's first new multifocal intraocular lens implantations for treating presbyopia and for cataract surgery - enabled a 35-year-old man to regain both distance and near vision
Nashville, TN, April 15, 2009
Wang Vision 3D Cataract and LASIK Center, Nashville, Tennessee
Brian Weist, a 35-year-old man from Mt. Juliet who suffered an electrical shock to his left eye which left him with a blinding traumatic cataract in that eye.
Brian sought help from many doctors and medical centers. However, due to Brian’s youth, traditional lens implantation after cataract surgery is not suitable, since it would debilitate Brian’s up-close reading vision, which Brian needs for his job and livelihood.
Brian heard about Dr. Ming Wang and his new “FOREVER YOUNG™ lens surgery”, a new multifocal intraocular lens technology for treating presbyopia and for cataract surgery. This new technology will enable Brian to see clearly both at a distance and for up-close reading. Dr. Wang is the director of the internationally known Wang Vision 3D Cataract and LASIK Center in Nashville, TN. A Harvard and MIT graduate (MD, magna cum laude), and one of the few eye surgeons who holds a doctorate degree in laser physics, Dr. Wang introduced many new eye technologies, including the world’s first femtosecond laser-assisted artificial cornea implantation and the state’s first bladeless all-laser LASIK. He has been involved in the research and development of many new eye reconstructive surgeries over the years, and has founded a sight restoration foundation which has helped patients from over 40 states and 55 countries, with all sight restoration surgeries performed free of charge.
Dr. Wang examined Brian’s eyes on 3/30/09 at Wang Vision 3D Cataract and LASIK Center, and was able to tell Brian the exciting good news: He will indeed be able to help Brian by removing his traumatic cataract and implanting the new “FOREVER YOUNG™ lens surgery”. Brian will be able to see well for distance and up-close, without the need for reading glasses. Furthermore, with this new lens, Brian’s up-close vision will no longer deteriorate with age, and he will be able to read clearly for the rest of his life. Compared with the existing multifocal intraocular lenses, this new lens has three distinct advantages:
- Excellent vision in all three ranges of vision (near, intermediate and distance)
- Good vision in all lighting conditions
- Vision not affected by pupil sizes
“Many of our patients call this new lens the "FOREVER YOUNG™ lens surgery". We are very excited that we are able to offer our presbyopic and cataract patients this state-of-the-art lens technology, which will enable them to have a full range of vision for both distance and reading, and be able to enjoy their excellent reading vision without deterioration due to aging,” said Dr. Wang, who is a clinical professor of ophthalmology for the University of Tennessee.
The 3D "FOREVER YOUNG™ lens surgery" cataract surgery for Brian took place at the Nashville Surgery Center on the morning of Monday, April 13th. It was a success and Brian is now able to see clearly for distance (20/20) and up-close (J1).
