Toric Implantable Contact Lens
Wang Vision 3D Cataract & LASIK Center, Nashville, Tennessee
On Tues, 1/8/19, Wang Vision 3D Cataract & LASIK Center, an internationally renowned laser eye surgery center, became the first in the state to offer the new Visian Toric Implantable Contact Lens Surgery, a recently U.S. FDA-approved innovative breakthrough procedure to help patients with a high level of nearsightedness and astigmatism.
Dr. Farhan Abdullah, a 35-year-old physician from Nashville, became the state's first patient to have the Toric Implantable Contact Lens Surgery.
Unlike traditional contact lenses, the Toric Implantable Contact Lens will be inserted into the eye, so it does not need to be removed every night before bedtime.
The Visian Toric Implantable Contact Lens is an innovative lens from STAAR Surgical which is placed behind the iris and in front of the eye's crystalline lens to correct vision. This method works with the eye to not only restore clear and sharp vision, but also provide UV protection and excellent night vision. It also eliminates the need for multiple surgical procedures by correcting astigmatism and myopia simultaneously. In a procedure that takes less than 30 minutes, the Visian Toric Implantable Contact Lens allows surgeons to treat patients with higher levels of astigmatism and myopia, while preserving the corneal structure of the eye.
"This is an exciting treatment option for our patients who have a large amount of nearsightedness and astigmatism, and for whom standard LASIK is not a viable option. We are thrilled to be the first in the state to offer this innovative lens! These patients will no longer need to take out their contact lenses every night," said Dr. Ming Wang, Harvard & MIT (MD), PhD (laser physics), and director of Wang Vision 3D Cataract & LASIK Center.
Dr. Wang specializes in the treatment of astigmatism, and he published the world's first major textbook dedicated to treating irregular astigmatism.
"I see patients who struggle with their eyesight every day." Dr. Wang added. "I'm delighted that there is now a lens-based solution available to help these patients. The Visian Toric Implantable Contact Lens will allow me to improve patients' lives with one easy-to-implant lens."
